One misty morning, a youthful girl named Lisha and her sister & Mei, went off to find some bamboo. They wandered past the Luscious Lilies and the pretty plum blossoms but still no sign of bamboo. Lisha caught a glimpse of a hunter’s uniform. Her eyes lit up like the sun rising after a dark night. "I would love to be a hunter!" chirped Lisha enthusiastically.
Mei, who wasn't very sure about Lisha's dream, felt alarmed.
“Are you sure? It's a dangerous occupation" questioned Mei apprehensively.
“Yes I am, and you can't stop me! Anyway, I'm going off to find bamboo” Lisha snapped back. Off Lisha went, leaving her beloved sister to find her own bamboo.
Immature, lonely Lisha felt like she was the size of a mouse in the immense forestland. The young girl didn't think of the consequences to her behaviour. She went to turn back but it was too late now. ‘A... Am I Lost? It can't be…’ Lisha thought to herself anxiously. Out of nowhere, Lisha heard a cry that felt like it was pulling her towards it. Even though she was already lost, she knew she had to go. What could it be? Why was the noise so distressing? She wandered further and further into the forest until she saw the source of the noise. It was
scrawny, famished panda cub.
Lisha felt like no other feeling she had ever felt. ‘It's a panda, I need to help!’ exclaimed Lisha. Yet again the panda let out an agonising yelp. "You’re lost like me, let's find your family. " stated the young, curious girl.
All of a sudden, the clouds went grey. The cub whimpered, hoping it would be ok. The pair of them shivered like leaves in the wind. This would make their trek a whole lot harder. Cold winds blew at them like an arrow to their hearts, how would they get out of this mess?
‘Why did I leave Mei? She was only doing the right thing for me.’ Lisha wondered to herself.
The two of them traveled for what fell like years until the sky lit up. The clouds had moved and gave Lisha and the cub warmth. Everything felt better but the cub was still malnourished. What could Lisha do? In the distance, she saw a large group of bamboo. Not only could she take some for her family she could also feed the panda. Lisha finally felt a sense of relief. As she refused to give up, Lisha and the panda cub journeyed to the bunch of bamboo.
“That was a long adventure, but it was worth it" Lisha uttered to herself as she arrived at the bamboo. The giddy, elated cub went and gnawed at the tall, slender bamboo.
Lonesome and lost Lisha sat under the shadow of the bamboo. She closed her eyes and wished to go home but what she wanted more than anything was for the panda cub, who was currently munching on bamboo, to be happy and with its family. Seemingly from nowhere Lisha heard stomping but it didn't sound like humans, it sounded like animals. Gradually, she opened her eyes and saw an animal's silhouette, then another and another.
As they came closer, Lisha figured that they were pandas! The cub let out a squeal of cheeriness. The cub ran towards the group in exhilaration. It was the panda cubs' family. As it was overjoyed, the young panda did a roll. Off it waddled, with its family into the eye-catching chinese twilight. Lisha was happy for the panda but felt a hole in her heart as she would miss her beloved companion.
Lisha, who lay on the grass hoping to be found, slowly dozed off. Just as she nodded off, a recognisable voice was yelling out. Without delay, Lisha called back.
“Hello! Can you hear me? I’m on my own." Lisha blurted out.
The shouting and answering went on and on until the voice came to a clearing. It was Mei!
“Mei! It's me! Lisha!" Lisha bellowed with hope in her heart.
“Lisha! Where have you been? Mother and I have been worried sick!" Mei exclaimed.
Lisha couldn't think of what to say. Could she tell the truth or lie to her sister?
“Well, it's a long story but I know I will never be a hunter” yelled Lisha without hesitation.
Off Lisha and Mei went into the radiant beauty of the country they call their home... China
